How often should we workout?
I feel this question is often on everyone’s mind when they first start thinking about fitness, beginning to attend classes, gym sessions or want to achieve a particular goal. How often should we workout?
Well here’s the bad news it’s a different number for every individual. If your already quite active you may have to ramp up your workout days and your intensity to see significant change. And in reverse, if your are quite in-active at present you may see benefits just from starting with one workout per week Always remember if we want to see change in our bodies we have to challenge them.
The breakdown varies depending on your specific goals, but in general, four to five days a week will do the trick if you’re aiming to improve your fitness and stay in shape.
If you’re going for the full five days per week, three days should focus on strength training, two days should focus on cardio, and two should be active rest. If you only want to work out four days a week, think about your goals: If you want to add muscle tone, cut a cardio day.
If you want to improve endurance, skip a strength day. Or switch it each week.
Weight training increases your metabolism
Right now I am following a very different program which only works you out 4 days per week and is mainly based on strength work. Each workout has a lift, HIIT and ends with a cardio section, so I feel like I am getting the best of it all. The program is 8 weeks long, I am on week 6 right now still in the building section, increasing my weights each week when I can and I know the last two weeks will all be about shredding, this is the exciting stage where you will *hopefully* start to see your efforts shining through.
I am thoroughly enjoying this program as it let’s me do other workouts and sports on the off days or I have the energy to double up on strength days.
If you need help choosing the correct workout program for you, I can help.
Send me your goals, let’s get connected and we will work together to find what plan will suit you best.
